Hormonal acne

2 min readBy the LiberSkin team · Non-medical approach

Androgens drive sebum

Androgen hormones, present in everyone, stimulate the sebum glands. When their effect rises, skin makes more sebum and the risk of a clogged pore goes up.

The typical signs

Acne concentrated on the lower face (chin, jaw), flare-ups tied to the cycle, often just before periods, sometimes after stopping contraception. This profile is common in adult women.

What you can act on

You don't act on your hormones directly, but their effect is amplified by sugar spikes (insulin) and stress. Steadying your blood sugar and sleep often softens the flare-ups. If acne is severe, medical advice remains valuable.
